The Best USB Microphone - Great for Podcasters and Amateur Musicians

More Information About the Best USB Microphone

Once upon a time, not so long ago, making quality recordings with your computer was complicated. To hook up a professional studio mic so you could get get decent sound, you would need to use a mixer and maybe an external pre-amp. LOTS of meddling and components to get things to work.

Now, thanks to the next generation of microphones, USB microphones, all you have to do is plug and play!

While the best USB microphone won't be quite as good as what a professional studio mic can produce, it will come closer than you might think. It will also cost a lot less money, making it a worthwhile addition to your personal and professional computer tool kit.

The best USB microphone on the market is versatile - you can create everything from blog podcasts to a mix of vocals and instruments. The latter is a great option for amateur musicians because standard computer microphones do not product high quality sound and professional studio microphones are costly.

The popularity of USB microphones is growing, and as computer technology improves, it's very likely that USB mics will equal or surpass professional studio mics.

The best USB will be versatile. Some USB models are really suited to vocals only, but if you really want to get the most for your money, why not go for it all? If you aren't a musician, perhaps your friend of family member is. Adding original music to podcasts is a great idea, so having that option is good.

STRENGTHS OF USB MICROPHONES

* power is supplied by the USB port of your computer

- no external power source is needed

* easy to set up - after installation all you need is recording software like Garage Band or the excellent and FREE open source program Audacity.

* very good sound quality compared to standard computer mics and headsets

* can be used on both PCs and Macs

* can record instruments and vocals (Reminder: some models are better suited to music recording than others - read reviews carefully)

WEAKNESSES OF USB MICROPHONES

* can't be connected to analog mixing boards

* sound quality isn't as good as what a pro studio mic can offer

* cable length is limited

Despite the current weaknesses of USB microphones compared to professional studio mics, they are an excellent choice for anyone who wants to produce solid sound with their computer without spending a lot of money or fussing with complicated setups and pricey external components.
